Ireland to announce team to face South Africa this weekend, on Thursday

SOCCER

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed Erling Haaland will miss tomorrow night’s Champions League Group G trip to Sevilla.

The striker missed Saturday’s win at Leicester with fever and a foot problem.

Guardiola hopes Haaland will return for this weekend’s game with Fulham.

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson insists players will only be selected for the World Cup on merit.

Some - such as Manchester United centre back Harry Maguire - have been booed when on international duty recently, amid poor form for their clubs.

Eriksson says the suggestion current manager, Gareth Southgate will take players to Qatar out of loyalty is nonsense:

RUGBY

Iain Henderson has manoeuvred himself into contention for Ireland’s test with the Springboks, in the Autumn Nations League.

The Ulster forward is yet to play this season having suffered a knee injury while on tour in New Zealand.

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell names his side to face the world champions on Thursday.

The Boks revealed their hand today, with Cheslin Kolbe named in the unfamiliar position of full-back.

It’s the first time the Toulon winger will start at fifteen for his country.

Kolbe’s return is one of three changes from their last Rugby Championship outing.

Kurt-Lee Arendse starts on the right wing while Damian Willemse is handed the number-10 shirt.

Meanwhile, Boks head coach Jacques Nienaber has been explaining why they’ve gone with a six-two split on the bench, also known as their Bomb Squad:

Ireland captain Jonathan Sexton says Willemse will be a huge threat:

GYMNASTICS

Rhys McClenaghan says he’s feeling confident having qualified for the men’s pommel horse final at the World Championships.

He placed first in this morning’s qualifier in Liverpool.

McClenaghan’s pommel horse final will take place on Saturday afternoon.
