Leixlip's Nathan Collins named Player of the Match

SOCCER

Troy Parrott scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time as the Republic of Ireland beat Lithuania 1-0 in their friendly international at the Aviva Stadium last night.

The 20 year old rifled home a superb strike from outside the area for his third international goal.

Leixlip's Nathan Collins was named Player of the Match.

Stephen Kenny's men are unbeaten in eight games.

The manager was asked after the match if his side still have issues breaking down so called "weaker teams":

Portugal and Poland have qualified for the World Cup finals.

Portugal beat North Macedonia 2-0, while Poland defeated Sweden by the same scoreline.

Mo Salah missed a penalty and his Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane scored the decisive spot kick as Senegal qualified for the World Cup at the expense of Egypt.

While Ghana are going to Qatar after defeating Nigeria on away goals.

Cameroon, Morocco and Tunisia have also secured their passage to football's showpiece in November.

Meanwhile, England manager Gareth Southgate criticised the fans who booed defender Harry Maguire in the friendly international against Ivory Coast.

Southgate described the catcalls at Wembley as an "absolute joke".

GAELIC GAMES

The Cork senior football management have written to the county board expressing their desire to have the Munster senior football semi-final against Kerry on the 7t of May played at Pairc Ui Rinn.

The Munster Council are understood to favour the game being switched to Killarney, as Pairc Ui Chaoimh will be unavailable in the aftermath of an Ed Sheeran concert.

GOLF

Ahead of next week's Masters, Tiger Woods has played a practice round at Augusta.

The 15-time major winner has not played competitive golf since being involved in a serious car crash 14 months ago.
