Finished 2-1 on the night, but 2-4 on aggregate

SOCCER

Shamrock Rovers' Champions League hopes were once again undone in injury time.

They had been 2-0 up at home to ten-man Ludogorets, and a goal away from forcing extra-time last night.

However, they conceded a late goal in Tallaght, meaning they won the game 2-1, but lost 2-4 on aggregate.

Rovers will be at home to North Macedonian champions Shkupi in the third qualifying round of the Europa League next week.

Beth Mead took her Women's Euro 2022 tally to six goals last night as England eased into the final.

Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo and Fran Kirby also found the net in a 4-0 win over Sweden at Bramall Lane.

England's final opponents will be decided tonight.

Germany play France at Stadium MK, where kick-off is at 8pm.

There's a Dublin derby this evening in the Women's National League.

Shelbourne can open up a ten-point lead at the top if they win at home to Bohemians.

GAELIC GAMES

Colm O'Rourke says it was now or never for him to take the Meath senior football manager job.

The two-time All Ireland winner was ratified for a three-year term last night, with a review to follow at the end of the second year.

RACING

Willie Mullins is gunning for back-to-back wins in the Galway Plate - the feature race on day 3 of the Galway Festival.

He trains the favourite El Barra.

That's due to get underway at 6.40pm.

The first race of the evening at Ballybrit is the Maiden Hurdle, and it's off at 5.10pm.
