Kildare AC’s John Fitzsimons bowed out at the World Athletics championships last night (Tues) in the 800m, finishing fifth in a comparatively slow heat in a time of 1:48.20.
The current 800m national champion finished strongly in a brave run but finished two spots outside the qualifying places in his heat
Ciara Mageean set a new national record in the 1500 metres final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last night, but agonisingly she finished 4th and missed out on a medal.
Mageean clocked a time of 3 minutes 56 point 6-1 seconds.
Tonight, Rhasidat Adeleke lines up the 400 metres final with high hopes of winning a medal for Ireland.
The 20 year old from Tallaght in Dublin is appearing in her first world final.
Louise Shanahan and Sarah Lavin are also in action today.
Shanahan competes in the heats of the 800 metres, with Lavin in the blocks for the semi finals of the 100 metre hurdles.
RUGBY
England captain Owen Farrell will miss the World Cup pool matches against Argentina and Japan next month.
World Rugby successfully appealed the decision by a panel last week to rescind the red card Farrell received against Wales.
England are also waiting to see if Billy Vunipola will receive a ban after his sending off against Ireland.
